Questions & Answers
Quick answers about fit, materials, installation and shipping.
Which type of boat seat should I choose?
Start with where the seat will be used and what you need it to do:
At the helm: Compare captain chairs for back support, armrests or a flip-up bolster, depending on the model. Check that the installed seating position lets you comfortably reach the controls and see ahead.
For fishing or bass-boat use: Choose a seat that fits your available space and allows comfortable casting and movement. If you want to turn while seated, check compatibility with a swivel mount.
For a lower profile when not in use: Choose a folding backrest. Check its open and folded dimensions—folding the backrest does not necessarily reduce the seat’s footprint.
For passenger seating: Consider a boat bench seat for two people to sit side by side during cruising or between fishing stops. Allow enough room for passengers’ legs and access to nearby storage.
These categories can overlap—a fishing seat may also fold. Before ordering, check the selected model’s dimensions, mounting requirements, weight capacity and intended use against your setup.
Will these boat seats fit my boat?
Fit depends on the seat’s dimensions and your mounting setup. Before ordering, check these three things:
Available space: Measure the usable width and depth at the seat position, then compare them with the selected seat’s overall dimensions.
Mounting compatibility: If you’re keeping an existing pedestal, swivel or slide, compare its connection and mounting-hole layout with the seat’s requirements. Measure hole spacing from center to center. For bench seats, check the model’s mounting method and required support.
Seating position and clearance: Allow room for your legs, nearby controls and storage lids, plus any folding, swivel or slide movement. At the helm, check the final seating height for comfortable control access and visibility. Swivel and slide functions require compatible mounting hardware.
If a measurement or mounting detail is unclear, email support@marinexplorestore.com with the product link, your measurements and photos of the existing mount before ordering.
What should I measure before ordering a marine seat?
Before ordering, record these measurements and compare them with the selected model’s specifications:
Available space: Measure the usable width from side to side and depth from front to back at the intended seat position. For bench seats, also measure the supporting platform or existing bench area.
Mounting holes: If you’re keeping an existing bolted mount, measure the distance between hole centers and record the full hole layout. Compare it with the new seat’s mounting requirements.
Seating height: If your current seating position is comfortable, measure vertically from the deck to the top of the seat cushion as a reference. The new installed height depends on the seat, pedestal and connecting hardware—not the seat’s overall backrest height.
Movement clearance: Check the space around nearby controls, storage lids and walkways, allowing for any folding, swivel or slide movement.
If a required dimension isn’t listed, email support@marinexplorestore.com with the product link, measurements and mounting photos before ordering.
Will the seat fit my existing pedestal or swivel?
Our boat seats use a standard 5″ × 5″ mounting pattern. Check the mounting plate that connects directly to the underside of the seat: the mounting positions should be 5 inches (127 mm) apart, center to center, both side to side and front to back.
If your mount has multiple holes or adjustable slots, check whether one configuration accommodates this pattern.
Unsure how to check? Email support@marinexplorestore.com with a photo and measurements of your mounting plate, and we’ll help you compare.
Are the pedestal and mounting hardware included?
Included components vary by product. Check the first product image or product description to see which seats, mounts and hardware are included. A swivel or quick-disconnect mount does not automatically mean a pedestal is included.
If you’re unsure, email support@marinexplorestore.com with the product link, and we’ll help you confirm what comes with your order.
Can I install a replacement boat seat myself?
You may be able to replace the seat yourself if your existing pedestal or swivel is secure, in good condition and compatible with our 5″ × 5″ mounting pattern.
Before starting, check the selected seat’s installation requirements and use the specified mounting hardware. If new holes or reinforcement are needed and you’re unsure how to proceed, consider getting advice from an experienced marine technician.
